Most of the insect repellent granules you can get at wall-mart, home depot, etc. work for ants. Sprinkle it around the foundation of your house. Usually you have to water it for a few minutes but follow the directions. It'll keep them out of your home.
If you want a less toxic method, you can use red pepper powder, hot sauce, etc. in the areas that the ants are entering. They absolutely hate hot sauce and won't cross the barrier. The downside is that if you use the powder outside, you'll have to re-apply it pretty often as any rain will wash it away quickly. I know it sounds stupid, but it works.
Good luck

Buy good residual ant spray maybe 3 cans.... I would go throughout the outside building and spray all around the foundation and steps... This should stop the ants from migrating inside your building

there is an ant bait that you can buy in hardware stores, can't think of the name of it but it is in a yellow squeeze bottle. The liquid is dark brown. put a few drops out where you see the ants, they take it to their nest and it kills the queen and the rest die or leave.

Get some Terro ant killer at Wal Mart garden dept.
Read instructions and follow carefully. They will carry it back to the nest and kill the whole colony.
Don*t be surprised if you see more at first; this is normal.
Don*t kill them; they are scouts .
