i have to write an algerbraic expression for the word problems and out of the 60 i cant get these....

let t be the total amount kat spent for blouses. each of the 5 blouyses cost the same. write an expression for the cost of each blouse.

let d be the distance paul ran. steve ran a third as far as paul. write an expression for he distance steve ran.

if anyone could help that would be great

1. Given:
Let t: total amount spent
5 blouses cost the same.
Let: y- cost of each blouse
so: t/ 5 = y

2. Given:
d = total distance paul ran
d/3 = steve's distance <====

Ironduke has it right.
Let t be the total amount for 5 blouses.
t=5 blouse
divide each side of the equation by 5 and you get
t/5 = blouse.

d = distance Paul ran. Steve ran 1/3 as far as Paul.
Steve = 1/3 Paul
Steve = 1/3 times d/1
Steve = d/3

you may have to add in extra variables that the question is not asking for, such as "b" for the amount EACH blouse costs, or "s" for the distance Steve ran...since you need something for each side of the equation.

Of course, on the first one, "t" would be on one side of the equation, and if you have five blouses that all cost "b," you would have t = b+b+b+b+b, or t=5b.

Just the same, the second equation sees "d" on one side and "s" on the other. In order to get to "d," you would have to add s + s + s, or d=3s.

I hope I'm not skipping steps, but I hope that helps.

t is the total amount spent. 5 is the number of blouses and x is the cost of each blouse
im not sure about the other one

cost per blouse = t/5

d/3 = distance Steve ran
