We recently eloped. We sent a loving note to all family, saying that we might have a gathering where everyone can attend. My father and step-mother don't like my husband because he spoke up and has, in the past, made some mistakes (as we all have). He is a good guy; I love him to pieces. All my other family was kind and supportive. My father loves me a lot but I know he is angry. He wrote me a note saying that their love and prayers go with me into my new life and that they miss me. Does this mean that they don't anticipate continuing a relationship? Or am I just nervous? By the way, I am an adult--not a real young one either, I am 30-something. I just felt that I needed to make my own decision about who I loved. This reminds me of the old saying, Never tell a parent about a fight with your boyfriend, because the two of you will forgive, snuggle and make up, and your parent will still hate him. I feel I made a mistake in that but at the time I really needed support.

I dont think that the note meant he didn't want contact with you infact i believe that was you family reaching out to you.Maybe you havve to start slow and visit them alone at first. The relationship between them may never be perfect but at least you guys can try to make it civil especially if you plan to have children.

All you can do is invite them and see if they turn up.
If they dont then there love for you isnt blind.
As long as you are happy and in love and your husband treats you right, they should be happy for you.
Everyone makes mistakes and if you have forgiven him then they should to.
Good Luck and congratulations

Did he say "I will miss you." or "I miss you." if the word will is in there then I guess it's up in the air becasue the word will implies that they could miss you while you are away on your trip, or they will miss you being in their lives. I hope things work out for the best, and Congratulations on your marriage.

I think they're just wishing you well and letting you know that they'd like to see you (maybe both of you together). I don't think there's anything negative about it. You were right to make your own decisions. Good luck!
