Project Gutenberg has many books out of copyright.

Try Project Gutenberg and World Wide School. Both post books that are in the public domain. Which means that if you're after something published in the last few years they won't have it as it will still be a while before it enters the public domain.

I'm not sure where you live. I Live in Colorado and at Denverlibrary.org and the Aurora Colorado libary Web site you can download E-books in adobe and read them. You can also pod cast books they have available. I bet if you live in or near a major city they have the same deal the only problem you will have to have a library card. But it's free!!
