Are you speaking of single parents in the United States alone? I think its because people today are less reserved and more careless. Its all about having fun now, whether or not it is reckless or harmful. Plus, kids today are growing up faster, succumbing to peer pressure at a younger age, giving in at a younger age, and experiencing adult things at a younger age. Plus, with lots of families in the middle working class, parents cant always be there to keep an eye on their kids whereabouts.
I personally think that it is the parent's fault when their child has a child at a young age. If you raise them right, they'll do right.

Society has changed. In past years if a woman got pregnant it was taboo and the couple would have to rush out and get married whether they were ready to or not. This led to many divorces. Now, society does not view single parents as outside the norm. Hence, many couples wait to get married and the divorce rates have dropped. There are also single parents by choice. Women that want children but have not found their life long partner so they elect to go ahead and have a baby because they are socially and emotionally prepared. There are other single parents that truly believe that their boyfriend/girlfriend will stay in the relationship only to find out that pregnancy was not wanted by the partner and rather than have an abortion they decide to make a responsible choice and raise their children on their own. Not to mention the growing popularity of sperm banks. There are so many different reasons to be a single parent, and there really isn't one single factor that increases one parent families.

There are two very conclusive areas the produce the huge majority of single parents:
1) Soaring divorce rate. Approximately 1/2 of all marriages end in divorce, perhaps higher; 2) approximately 33% of all children are born outside of marriage.
Why this is so is due to several reasons such as the social prohibition against bastardy has become accepted as a moral choice, divorce is extremely common and accepted as "normal" and even "moral" and in some circles, preferable.
America was based on a "classless society" and it has become just that; a society with no class.

Well the divorce rate just recently got that low. Plus divorces are easier to get (more no fault) then lets say 20 or 30 years ago. Plus some couples are just electing not to get married in the first place. And society is not supporting marriage as vigorously as it once did. Divorce/single parents is more acceptable these days.

Because so many people get divorced; after they have had two or three children together or they choose to adopt as a single parent. There are probably multiple factors; I guess a good question might be are there more single parents today than in the past?

Statics is people give up on love and in the person they are with. 9 times out of 10, they have chilren before the divorce. People, however, don't give up on marriage. 95% remarry at some point in their life. Those that are single with kids, tend to have a longer period till they remarry because of the issues. There isn't time, young kids involved, ect.

Besides divorce rates, too many mismatched couples are bringing kids into the world - abusive couples and cheaters having lots of sex and not enough commitment. There's also lots of pro-life people who constantly urge pregnant women to "keep the baby" so that also contributes to single-parents. Also, marriage is not the same as it was 60 years ago when ALL couples pretended to be straight, men could support their families, women didn't have too many choices like college, and kids weren't having babies.

1)Because people have sex and are not prepared to have long term partners.
2) our society says that being a single parent is rather noble.
3) Teenagers actually think that the guy will marry them if they get pregnant.
4) Marriage is ridiculed in our society and single parents are romanticized

Because it is accepted. 50 or 60 years ago there was a real stigma attached to unwed mothers and "bastard" children. That stigma no longer exists. In fact, many people PLAN single parenthood. Women go to sperm banks or find willing or unwilling "donors". The courts are more vigilant about forcing absent parents to care for their offspring financially. Especially in the case of millionaire athletes and other high profile absent fathers. (Unfortunately, it is too easy for ordinary absent parents to just disappear and abandon their offspring)

Because marriage is no longer a prerequisite for pregnancy. The economic ability of the parent(s), is a strong contributer to the decision to reproduce. Many fractured marriages seriously compromise the stability of available develmental
envoiornments. Security is probably the most important element contributing to the kids' feeling of safety.
