Don't look so sad
I know it's over
But life goes on
And this old world
Will keep on turning
Let's just be glad
We had some time to spend together
There's no need to watch the bridges
That we're burning

Lay your head,
Upon my pillow
Hold your warm and tender body
Close to mine
Hear the whisper of the raindrops
Blowing soft, against the window
And make believe you love me,
One more time,
For the good times

I'll get along
You'll find another
And I'll be here
If you should find,
You ever need me
Don't say a word
About tomorrow, or forever
There'll be time enough for sadness
When you leave me

Lay your head
Upon my pillow
Hold your warm and tender body
Close to mine
Hear the whisper of the raindrops
Blowing soft against the window
And make believe you love me
One more time
For the good times

Everyone has mentioned some good songs! In my opinion I feel the following are very heartbreaking:

1. "How Can I Help You Say Goodbye" Patty Loveless
2. "Go Rest High On That Mountian" Vince Gill
3. "Alyssa Lies" Jason Michael Carrol
4. "Don't Laugh At Me" Mark Wills
5. "What Do You Say" Reba McEntire

There are a TON more, but those were the first to pop into my head!!

Lets go way back and say Hank Williams "I'm So Lonesome I could Cry". For something a little newer George Jones "He Stopped Loving Her Today". Garth's "The Dance" is truly a great song. "Honey " by Bobby Goldsboro is a sad song too. I guess it depends on what you want to here. Merle Haggard's "Mama Tried" isn't a standard sad song but it is a heartbreaker. Johnny Cash "shot a man in Reno just to watch him die" and ended up with "Fulsom Prison Blues". I think I have to go with Hank though.

I Will Always Love You by Dolly Parton. She sings it in her movie "The Best Little W****house in Texas" and it is the most heartwrenching song. The lyrics and the emotion in her voice as she sings it to the man that she loves but knows she'll never be with is just incredible. It's on youtube. Ya'll should go and check it out. Just type in "I Will Always Love You"-Dolly Parton or something and it should show up.
