Do you believe that those running for president, who currently hold a public office, are truly serving the office which they were elected to?

I find it hard to believe that, with the constant campaigning, many of those who have announced their intent to run for President are actually taking the duties of their current office seriously. How can they expect us to believe that they have the best interests of their constituents in mind, when they spend so much of their time focusing on their candidacy rather than the job which they were elected to do.

There are at least 5 candidates currently in the running who do not hold political office at the time.

This is merely a matter of perception. How much time does someone in the legislator actually spend representing their constituents? I would say very little in actuality. The position has many duties that have nothing to do with making law when you consider the glad-handing and PR that is a part of getting re-elected to the office and the meetings that are basically to establish or join an existing power base. I would estimate that the majority of the work is done by staff and the actual legislative duties consist mostly of using the position to sway other legislators to vote for your bill and showing up for the vote. The vote for the bill most likely to get you re-elected next time around of course. The fact is that rarely is the position for public service but more of a career or a stepping stone to bigger and better things. And that should be my cynical statement of the day. LOL

They have there own dynasty to concern themselves with. They could careless about you and I. That is why you should not have career politicians. These silver spoon jackrabits have not one clue as what it is to worry about having food on the table or worring about making a house payment. Or worrying if they will have health care. Vote them out.
Shake them up this time don't vote change vote the losers out. Look at Arnold if he was doing a lousy job the media would be killing him.

What should they do differently. This is our system. How would you change it?

I still don't get it are you saying that only people who don't currently hold office should run?

Of course you are right! But, you have to understand that the constituents you speak of would love for their representative to be elected president... More perks for the incumbents state, not to mention the cool jobs and assignments for his or her power brokers.

If they want to win office they have to stump and travel. Anything less than that is wasted effort.

No they have too many perks and are overpaid considering they let the Think Tanks and Lobbyist do thinking.

Why do you think they are called politicians?

Getting law makers out of Washington, for any reason, is a good thing. If they are not in session, making up screwy laws, we all are better off.
