I have an 06 Monte LT3 with the 3.9 liter. I've added a K&N filter and a pair of flowmaster 40 series mufflers. The HP gains are modest at best. I love this car but I'm not convinced it could spank the 3.8 liter supercharged version from the previous model year ( which has 40 or more ft lbs of torque) much less a current SS with the 5.3! You could get a cold air intake, a performance exhaust system and a racing chip and see a noticeable difference, but without more exotic mods you probably won't make it SS comparable. Just my .02 - Good luck and enjoy your Monte.

shoulda bought an SS. I have a 2003 Monte Carlo SS with 3800 engine and it is nice. It's been around a number of years so modification parts are available. Plus it is one of the most reliable engines ever produced. The 3.4 is not as popular for modification and is not as easy to work on. You would have to do some work to get the extra 60 hp needed to come up to the stock SS.

it is not a bad car! but it is not a fast car,the engine is not really popular to modification, you can use k&n filter and and different coils plugs and wires, which will give you check engine light for running rich or lean i see it all the time.keep it as it is is my advice before you blow bunch of money to gain few horses.get your self a 8cyl or 4cyl car if you want to ness around with it that would be my advice buddy!
