Because the ones spreading lies would be shown for what they are by really fair and balanced news stories.

The fact that it was implemented before DOES NOT justify its use now.
IT IS OPPRESSION
It could very well be the spark that ignites violent rebellion in this nation. Limp wristed leftwing protests will pale in comparison to what the right wingers are capable of.

Dem's want it back to force Conservative talk radio to also carry liberals. Its a interesting debate as our media sources become more concentrated it very easily could get harder to find divergent views. However I don't think it makes sense to force radio stations to split their time between Conservative and liberal hosts. How could ever really enforce it anyways?
