All other things being equal, it makes the same noise regardless of which way you are zipping it. However, it sounds different to you because of the Doppler effect. An object moving towards you seems to make a different sound than the same object moving away from you because of the way the sound waves hit your ears as they are generated.

More of a physics question than a philosophy one, really.

Depends, how much wax is in your right ear compared to your left, or the percentage of torque used on the up zip as the down zip, or if you are the same distance from the zip each time it is in action, does a tree falling in a forest make any sound if no one is there and does it sound the same as one hand clapping?

It definitely has a different sound when you zip it up catching some foreskin in it...

The high-pitched hideous scream that accompanies that action gives a little different "character" to the whole sound of it...

Zipping it down again makes no sound at all because someone else does it while you're passed out...

(I read that somewhere...that's why I use button-fly jeans...(Whew!)

Not exactly because the sound will really depend on the amount of force you applied. The greater the force the greater the sound, the lesser the force the lesser the sound. Is that a sound answer?

It gets louder being closed as it becomes closer to the ears, unless it's a tent, then the opposite applies.

i'm imagining a jacket or a sleeping bag and I think they do sound different. it makes a higher pitched noise as it goes up towards the top. also maybe depends on the force you use.
