If these are older women, maybe they would like some more classic jazz from the 40's-60's, like Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Benny Goodman, Sonny Rollins, Oscar Peterson, Bill Evans, Count Baise, etc.

Or if they might like a more contemporary, smooth jazz sound, look for Russ Freeman/The Rippingtons, Chris Standring, Richard Elliott, Euge Groove, Dave Koz, etc.

Or something in between: Harry Connick, Diana Krall, George Benson, Earl Klugh, Lee Ritenour, Bob James, George Duke, etc.

Have fun!

Well, you are starting the party RIGHT! Any CD by pianist Bob James is great. Some have heavier stuff, but most are on the light side and some have vocals! Also Ramsey Lewis has done many lighter CD's, many with voices. One of his best is The SUN GODDESS CD with Earth, Wind & Fire. I lean more to the Brazilian type of jazz and Stan Getz has so many really good CD's with many Brazilian artists, many including vocals. I like Getz-Gilberto (includes Girl from Ipanema) and Getz-Byrd very much. Any CD you could find by Antonio Carlos Jobim (with or without the family) is a crowd pleaser. Good listening and party hard.

Hi! Huge Groove has a new CD out, Richard Elliott, Rick Braun, Peter White, Boney James and Mindi Abair Acoustic Alchemy. These are my top picks and they have yet to put out a bad CD so you just can't go wrong. Have fun~ it's all contemporary jazz. If you go to Amazon you can listen to some of their music, search Rick Braun Cadillac Slim if you like that chances you will like all of these artists for her party.

I recommend 'Ascension' by John Coltrane, a lovely peaceful album which would be perfect for just such an occasion. Another one would be 'Machine Gun' by the Peter Brötzmann Octet - I know it doesn't sound light, but trust me here.
