It's an index of individuals who have passed away over the years. Sometimes it lists their last county and residency. It's good for genealogical research.

It lists all individuals (including their last area of residence) whose death has been reported to the social Security Administration since 1960. Those not listed would be those whose deaths were not reported to SSA or who died prior to the index beginning or those w/ no SS number. If you find a person on the list, you can contact the administration and obtain a copy of their original social security application, which has lots of info on it if you're looking for family info. The index is an amazing resource.
