No. I don't think it needs to be a struggle. I think that we are all pretty aware of who we are and who we are not.
I can be hard to accept ourselves for who we are, but once we do, it is easier to either change or accept what we think is undesirable.
Sometimes, changing who we are is not the answer. Sometimes it is about acceptance.

I think a part of finding out who we are is sort of like "trying on" the various things we are not. That's why I think when we are discovering ourselves as teenagers we go through different stages where we want to join different crowds & see where we fit. I think everyone goes through a period where they "try on" something that they are not just to see if it's who they really are deep down inside.

The struggle is what defines our soul's character within this universe.
It's the YIN YANG of nature.

I guess it comes down to why you're making changes. Are you doing them to impress someone or are they changes that need to be made to make you a better person?

I used to try to change myself. Now I just go with what I want and buy things (clothes, books, music) based on what I think is "cool."
I like to think my own sense of style is what makes me who I am, and without my own sense of what I want to be on my own, I wouldn't be "me."
