For romance, I suggest A Rose for Melinda by Lurlene McDaniel. I'm also a big fan of To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Sci-fic: The Hot Zone is really good, a good mixture between sci and horror.

If would suggest The Chanters of Tremaris Trilogy, beginning with "The Singer of All Songs" by Kate Constable. The main character is a teenager and it has a bit of romance, but all in all it's a fantasy, and a REALLY good one.
As far as teenage comedy goes...hm...well, it might be a little juvenile, but the book "Flipped" might be good...I forgot who wrote it. Sorry.

If you like teen age comedy, there is a series by Louise Rennison, who is a British author, about a teenage girl and all of the shenanigans she gets herself into. The first book is called "Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging: Confessions of Georgia Nicolson." Very light but amusing reading.
