Colors are wavelengths; the frequency of those wavelengths determines the colors we see, or the colors that are emitted. Some of them are invisible (infrared, ultraviolet, etc.) but the number of colors is finite, and they've all been "discovered."

Nope, have you seen the "color circle" in art class? It shows all possible shades, and yes, it's because of the frequency of the wave lengths.
