how do u run a computer in safe mode?

i have a HP, if that matters

Press F8 repeatedly after BIOS POST, that is before Windows would load up.

It should prompt you with "F2 Setup, F8 Safe mode" or something similar. A simpler way is to plug in a floppy all the way, and when it tells you it isn't a system disk press F8 (you may need to tap F8 twice in this method).

Try restarting and tapping F8 repeatedly during the middle of the restart. It should bring up a menu, and you can select safe mode there.
