Well I would assume the basic problem with the obnoxious jerk is that they don't feel remorse/anxiety in their actions twards other people, so maybe them loving people, then really hurting them, and realizing they've really messed up, will make them more considerate.

Usually when an obnoxious guy feels love for someone, he is most likely to show off, acting more guyish then usual. If he knows that he is showing off his guyish actions, then he has then self-esteem to get the girl to like him.
