Ah the good old days, I cannot imagine a whole generation of people who do not know the glory of potatoes deeply fried in highly saturated beef tallow. Spray them with a little liquid sugar to caramelize the outside to a golden brown and sprinkle generously with salt. A delight that cannot be matched by todays polyunsaturated vegetable oil creations. While I am sarcastic about the health aspect, I must agree with you that the old fries at Mickey D's were UNMATCHED!!! I do believe it was the beef tallow that they were fried in that made them so indescribably addicting. I had a friend in college who used to stop off at McD's order about five or six fries and dump them all in the bag and eat 'em like popcorn. I never did that, but I always wished I did. Now, McDonald's fries are good, but the same as alot of other fast food joints. Thanks for the memories--I enjoyed the walk down memory lane. Weren't fries 10 cents and burgers 12 cents? or was it 12 and 15???

MAN OH MAN those fries were the BEST! I have been a vegetarian all my life...or some hybrid of a vegetarian (basically I dont give a S$%#^ about being one, I just am unable to digest the proteins found in certain meats, chicken, beef, pork, ect) I remeber those fries!! I loved um! they had to change to using vegetable grease or something, AND they were too fattening. So the flavor is totally different now. :-(

I think it has to do with the fat that is used for frying them. It used to be an animal fat. Then it was changed to a vegetable fat. I'm not sure why. One thing that I recall hearing is that vegetarians wanted to be able to eat them. I'm not sure. Also, do you know that they aren't really slices of potato but that they are a powder that is put into a mold to look like fries. Not sure of that either, but I got that from the media. Maybe none of this is the truth but you can research it.

They were the best, deep fried in pig fat. Then the cholesterol police came along..............I remember a spokesman for McD's came on TV and said that would be one thing they would never change because they just taste so good.

David Brudnoy was right: There is no shortage of people yearning to leap forward and take away our fun....

EDIT add: OK I guess it was beef fat. my bad

They changed them for the nut cases trying to lower fats. It is actually the oil that changed not the fries.

McNuggets were just part now they are breast.

I liked them better before.

Not that I don't like real breast...smile

They taste great because they had beef fat flavoring added!

A no-no for vegetarians and Hindus alike.

Also think about this. The new ad for McDonald's is
Chicken nuggets, now with real chicken breast!

What the heck were they made from before?

Yes they do cover window units on the house and rooftop units. They are not completely sealed off. They are still open to the building. Just saying that I have had to fix a lot of units because people seal them up tight.
