Charles I of England:
-Stuart King
-born 1600 to James I and Anne of Denmark
-married Henrietta Maria of France
-ascended the throne 1625, reigning 24 years
-executed in 1649 at age 48
-governed by personal rule from 1629-1640, after having dissolved Parliament for the 3rd time
-believed he had the divine right to rule & Parliament had no right to dictate to him (in fact, he believe no person or group had a right to judge or dictate to him as King)
-he had poor judgment; a weak king
-1642 Charles the First tried to have 5 members of the House of Commons arrested - which brought his troubles with Parliament to a head & civil war followed
-when he was tried in front of 135 judges he refused to give a plea (again believing he had the divine right & they had no right to judge him)

There's so much more....

He was the second king of the Stuart dynasty, following the Scottish import James I, who had succeeded Elizabeth I. His royalist forces (the Cavaliers) lost in the English civil war, following which the Commonwealth (dominated by Oliver Cromwell) was set up. After the Restoration in 1660 came the reign of the last two Stuarts, Charles II and James II, both of whom were sons of Charles I, who had been executed by the victorious Parliamentarians back in 1649.

He was the worst King England ever had. Very weak. Couldn't make up his mind. Believed in the divine right of kings, in other words kings could be despots. Quite rightly, his head was cut off.
