Velocette, Vincent, Villiers (UK)
Wooller, Wilkinson (yes the razor blade people) (UK)/Wanderer(Germany)/Werner (France)
X
Yamaha (Japan)
Zundapp (Germany)/ Zenith (UK)

X has got me!

(Never heard of a "Xantia". Isn't that a Citroen c**?)
Probably is a Chinese manufacturer with that name but I think that all depends on which Roman letters you use to translate the Chinese so I'm just not going to go there. (Had a quick look on www.alibaba.com - it scared me!)

Tony, over the years there were over 600 registered motorcycle manufacturers in the UK alone, with Germany coming a close second. It would be impossible to list them all here, but if you are interested you need to get the Encyclopedia of motorcycles by Erwin Tragatsch, it lists probably a couple of thousand manufacturers throughout the world from small time firms building just a few bikes to the large firms like BSA and Honda. It is probably the most comprehensive list of Motorcycle manufacturers anywhere!
UK 685 manufacturers,Germany 667, Italy 567, USA 340 and the list goes on and on.

I have a book, "The New Illustrated Encyclopedia of Motorcycles" by Erwin Tragatsch, that lists 2,500 marques - many of which very few have heard of - eg:

XL (England 1921-23)
X-Tra (England 1920-22)
- and 21 beginning with "Z"

the 1920s & 30s seem to have spawned a huge number of small manufacturers who lasted only a few years.
