No I don't think it is a disgrace especially if you live in the U.S.
I think it's shameful that people come over here for a better way of life but don't choose to better themselves and learn english but expect you to speak Spanish and have the nerve to get mad at you if you are hispanic.

Don't see it as a disgrace because is not. See it as a challenge and a goal because to speak more than one language will open many doors for you in the future. It's never late to learn another language, if you put your mind on it, you will.

If you were born and raised in a country where English is the main language its not a disgrace. If you wish to learn about your heritage a bit then learn the language for fun!

Well, yes and No...I'm Black and Cuban...my mom was one of the youngest children in the family at the time...by the time she was born...everyone was speaking English well and she only speaks broken Spanish like I do...but I am making an effort to become fluent...not just for me..but so i can teach my kids...and besides being bilingual is always a plus in the business world.

I kinda think it is. Its just really nice to maintain 'strong ties' with your culture...whether or not you were raised in a home with strong hispanic/latin roots. I think of it mostly as a responsibility to learn the language of our ancestors. It's sad when you really look hispanic and you don't have a clue what your fellow compadres are tellin ya. Que tristeza.

It's okay, you don't need spanish in the USA. If you want to go to Spain or Mexico like I do you might have a good way to learn it = family members.
