I'm sure the same statistics could be said for other nations as well.

It's not just an "american" problem.

It's a world problem.

I'm not at all surprised. And these are the "Leaders Of The Free World"? What a joke!!! If you want an idea of the mentality of the average american, look at the comic section of your local paper. It's a pretty good indication of what you're getting!

I think its an understatement!

In the school that I attend... u'd hardly see anyone reading anything but the textbooks required for the courses...

I always have a book in my backpack for when I find the free time to read it... :)

It is the sign of the times and - in the book industry - a reason why writers are having harder times getting published with the major companies....the market is dwindling for the printed word.

Dang! I probably only read about 10. But - none? Nada? Hmmmm. Heck - my 12 year old read at least 40 in the past year (she has more free time than I).

I'm not surprised though. And it's very sad.

Not at all. "Reality" TV is killing literacy.

I'm curious as to how many only claimed they'd read a book in the last year because they read parts of the bybo.

But hey, the world needs ditchdiggers too.

Religious books should have been at an all time high. We are looking for the coming of the Lord and more people than ever are reading the Bible and searching the Scriptures.

Over half of the population is below average in intelligence. The average ones and just above average ones are sure not very smart... and that takes care of most of the population.

The above average just try to stay the hell out of the losers way and read their books in private...
