any person such as but not limited to the military, police, firefighters, doctors, nurses who lay their lives on the line every time they go to work to defend and protect our way of life. remember that all gave some and some gave all.

we should also include people such as the rescue parties who risk their lives to save fellow workers such as the coal miners.

these are the people who are in my opinion true heroes.

Anybody can do something at just the right time and be hailed as a hero.

I believe the real heroes are the ones who stick around for their child's sake. The ones who spend hours upon hours trying to teach their kid the alphabet, and addition and how to treat other people.
The ones who pass up the game because their little one is in a show at their school. The ones who work all week long and can never afford the car they would really like to have, but they can buy their kid an $ 800 band instrument.
The ones who take their kid to soccer practice, the skating rink and the choir practice.
The ones who teach their kids the things that they believe in.
These are the real heroes, they are making the heroes of the next generation.

A hero is someone who has made a positive difference in someone else's life... whether they were an inspiration, they saved a life, or the other person admires the person for some other reason.

Jesus Christ is my hero because He died on the cross for my sins.

My parents are my heroes because they have put up with me for 14 and a half years.

My brother is my hero because... well... we play together when we're bored, and we always talk to each other.

Famous sayings can define being a hero.
"With great power, comes great responsibility"

Sometimes heroes are easily defined such as
your father, brother, or teacher.

Perhaps a look at our members of the armed forces.
Consider some of their great deeds of the United States past and present.
American citizen soldiers defeated the most powerful army
and navy in the world.
Many have heard of the exploits of Major General Joshua Lawrence
Chamberlain during the Civil War. But probably many would not
know that he offered the hand of friendship to a defeated Confederate
Army at Appomattox.
During World War I, Sergeant Alvin C York was a well known Medal
of Honor winner but many do not know he was a conscientious
objector.
Audie Murphy, a medal of honor winner during World War II was the most
decorated soldier in the history of the United State but he suffered
post traumatic disorder for the rest of his life.

Truly, our idea of being a hero needs to be redefined.

Someone with integrety. Someone who is willing to help others, even at a great cost to themselves. Yes, to me this can include a teacher, or anyone else who puts in conscious effort to improve the lives of those around them.

The more obvious example is people such as on United 93. They knew what they were facing. They called their loved ones and told them the situation and that they loved them. They knew that the Twin Towers had been hit. They stood up and tried to make a difference. Yes, their own lives hung in the balance, and they of course would have lived if they could have. But they also knew that if they didn't do something, their plane, too, would crash into a building or a group of people.

The firefighters, too.

Being a hero takes facing the truth. My father is my hero. He raised me to face the truth of my physical disability, and lead a productive life.

i don't really know but ever since i was a young kid i always thought of my cousin being a hero. he was a track star in high school and when he graduated he tried to get a few jobs that didn't work out and he needed to support his family somehow so he joined the military and when he was out of boot camp he started to do air conditioning and refrigerator repair. until 9-11 happened then he was sent to Germany for a year then was sent to Iraq. i still look up to him even tho ever since he came back he changed alot. he is alot more nervous about things and he doesn't talk about things as much as he used to. i always thought of him being a hero and i really don't know why

i also had another hero but he kinda proved that Hero's aren't invincible. Deputy Steve Cox. Ive known him since i was probably about 14 years old and he was always really nice he would always give advice when you needed it. alot of people who knew him gave him the nickname Superman. in December he was shot and killed while just doing his job as a king county police officer. he left behind his wife and step daughter and a 1 year old kid they adopted.

the thing about steve cox was he kind of inspired me to become a police officer. he came back to his old neighborhood to try and make it better and thats what i wanted to do. and in a few years i will beable to because ill be old enough to be a police officer. maybe someday ill be somebodys superman
