HOld ON! Stop the presses! Your baby is NOT constipated!
Breastfed babies can go for more than a week without a bowel movement.
Think about it: what is poop? It's waste. Breast milk is so perfect, and your baby uses it so efficiently, sometimes there just isn't any waste.
My children would regularly go a week without a BM. As long as it's still soft when they go, they're NOT constipated. Constipation has to do with the consistency of the poop and not the frequency.
So, leave him ALONE! He's fine!
From the link below:
"It is also normal for a breastfed baby older than six weeks to have only one bowel movement every few days. Some healthy babies will have only one bowel movement a week. When bowel movements are less frequent, they should be more profuse in volume. As long as the baby is gaining well, wetting sufficiently, and is happy and content there is no cause to be alarmed by infrequent bowel movements, and it is not necessary to give the baby a laxative, fruit juice, or any other "helpers." In fact, attempting to force bowel movements can have harmful consequences to your baby."

RE:
My baby hasn't pooped for three days?
My baby is 8 weeks old tomorrow. He was very regular, had 4-6 bm per day. After a few weeks, I'd say once he was about 5 weeks old, he started having just 2 bm a day. Then for about 2 or 3 days he had just 1 explosion per day. Now he hasn't had a bm for 3 days. What could be wrong? He is...

My baby did the exact same thing around 6 - 8 weeks. She had been having bms 2 and 3 times a day and then, all of a sudden, for 3 days....there was nothing. I was scared silly. I called the doctor and they told me not to worry about it. Most breastfed babies don't have regular bowel movements. They said as long as she wasn't fussy everything was okay. On the 4th day......after a good warm bath......she went without a problem. Hang in there......their little body has a lot to adjust to. But if you are worried.....as any mother would be......give your doctor a call..... that will calm your nerves! Best of luck!

He should indeed be doing at least once a day at that age. If he hasn't done for three days - I'd put a supository in him if I were you. Remember a small piece of soap inserted up the butt can impel him to push his dirt out - quickly!

There is nothing wrong with your baby. My son is 9 weeks and he normally only has a BM once every other day. Then he has a big blow out. Because breast milk is so easily digested there isn't a lot of "leftovers". And as the baby's digestive system gets more mature they get fewer and fewer. I would mention it to the doctor at his 2 month visit but I'm sure there is nothing wrong.

My daughter is nine weeks old and exclusively breastfed, and frequently goes several days without a bowel movement. My pediatrician told me this is absolutely normal.
Do not give water, juice, enemas or any other scary suggestions on here. It will resolve itself. If you're worried, call your pediatrician's office.

My baby is 8 weeks old as well ( 2nd child) an this is normal. He could have went threw a growth spurt, or increase of formula, etc...He may be on an every 3-4 day routine. If he goes more than 5-7 days i would be concerned..maybe a few oz. of plain water-no milk-will help...Good luck!

You need to discuss this with your baby's doctor now! It is probably nothing but better safe then sorry, you can call the doctor's office & ask to speak to his nurse, they'll usually have to call you back but make sure you talk with the Dr. or His Nurse

I just had this problem with my six week old, the doc. told me that it was normal. and that they may not go as often. I too was concerned because my for child never had that problem and went several times a day. I also gave him an oz. of water too.
p.s. i also breastfeed my 6 week old as well.
