People are always afraid of the unknown or someone who is different. It is much safer to stay with what you know. The sad part is that you are robbing yourself about learning something new...a new way of looking at things, a new group of activities you could have learned, and a new friendship you could have made. Weird people are any different then mainstream society except that they just see things in a different light.......hope this helps....

I too have noticed this. I let my freak flag fly at every opportunity much to the disgust of my boring fellow humans. I was questioned about why I spoke to my plants and my animals the other day. My answer: If you had more character than my plants or animals I'd talk to you as well. Life is short you have to get the most out of it... being with boring types will not do the trick.

Because people like to be around other people that they can relate to. If you label someone else as weird, it doesn't neccesarily mean that they are. But that they are not like you and you would prefer to not be around them.
Another reason is for safety. People look out for their own best interests and don't want to be around anyone that could be harmful.
This is a very broad question and hard to answer without knowing what you mean by "weird". But, this is what I think!

because there afraid of the unknown, if they dont under stand a situayion they tend to stay clear of that person,, which is really kindda sad, everyone needs someone in there lives, and like it or not ppl need ppl. so if you see someone who so calls appears to be weird, just try to think of what may or may not be going on in there lives,if you havent been there how do you know?

Because they are afraid of those who are different from themselves.
Because they prefer the security of people around them who are 'like' them.
Because they don't want to explore the possibility that there are people with other interests, other than their own interests.
They won't challenge themselves to find out about these, because they are afraid they couldn't 'hold their own' in that type of company.
I could go on..................................!

Because those people that stay away don't like people that aren't afraid to be themselves. They have to be followers and have to worry about other peoples opinions. In other words there all cowards.

depending on the level of weirdness/randomness, it can just be downright annoying or even scary!!
my sister & her friend used to be scary-weird/random so I tried to avoid them as much as possible when they hung out cause they'd get creepy....and annoying at the same time. UGH!!

You answer your own question. If someone thinks someone's weird- in a bad way, then they do it for self preservation.
People are hardwired for it.
