yes mike you've hit the nail on the head. lampard is easily the most overated player in the premiership. the think i dislike most about him is how selfish he is with england, steven gerrard is the best attacking midfielder in the premiership (he's the best english player at the moment) yet lampard insists on attacking constantly instead of sitting back and allowing gerrard to do what he does best for the good of the team, and he complains when the fans show there frustration and boo him. englands got at least 3 top level team minded midfielders at man u ( scholes, hargreaves, carrick) that would be prepared to do his job properly, yet for some ungodly reason he still gets chosen. i hope he gets injured by euro 2008, i cant stand him.

agree with nikkicy.

frank lampard is widely regarded as one of the finest footballer not only in england but in europe. but why? what has led [or misled] fans and critics to this?

Because... Frank Lampard scores goals. the fact that he can score even more goals than some top strikers have brought many admirers to his goal-scoring prowess.
...BUT!!!
if one takes a closer look at his game, he is actually one of the worst sharpshooters out there! the fact that he scores alot is due to him taking much more shots on goal than any other player [just look at World Cup 2006; most shots on goal, worst shots-to-goals ratio]. but nobody ever mentioned his misses, and it is only at the World Cup 2006 that people finally start to question Lampard's scoring abilities. lampard is a very selfish player and forgets that he is primarily a MIDFIELDER! he's suppose to PASS or ASSIST strikers, not grab all the glory himself!
notice he seldom [or never] pass the ball once he is in the opposition's penalty area.
notice another fact: most of his goals are actually badly deflected goals, proving once again he is not a clinical finisher by any means.
but one credit to him is the fact that he gets into the right position at the right moments; he has pretty decent sense of positioning. but DEFINETELY over-rated.

Here's the sad thing: Steven Gerrard, who is thrice the player Lampard will ever be, has to play second fiddle to the Chelsea man during international duties. THis is, however, more due to the Liverpool captain's all-round abilities rather than Lampard's capabilites. I hope McClaren's got the guts to drop Frank to the bench from now onwards. With players like Hargreaves or even Carrick playing alongside Gerrard, only then can we see Gerrard playing at his fullest potential [as he did on so many occasions for liverpool] and thus make england strong and intimidating!

Rio Ferdinand.

and i'm a man utd fan. he's lazy, he rarely does anything useful, he rarely even makes an effort to get the ball, never mind to keep it.

when he was playing for england in the world cup, think back to how many times he got the ball, and of those times, how many of them did he give the ball away because of a lazy pass. he hardly ever manages to hit a target. he's useless.

and way too argumentative, even when the situation doesn't involve him, he tries to get involved and start an argument.

think about the man city match last week. only a few minute left to equalise, and he goes up to the ref to start arguing about a situation that had nothing to do with him in the first place. wasted a lot of valuable time there. thats typical ferdinand.

I agree with you Lampard he the most over rated player i have seen and if he were playing for a team like west ham still or spurs he would not get a game for england. Rio Ferdinand is also over rated he is the laziest player I have ever seen play

Ashley Cole. You pay him millions of pounds to get injured. Plus Shorey and Wayne Bridge are better footballers than he is.
