I worked for a bank a while ago and I had a customer come to my window and notice I was wearing a cross around my neck. He felt it was wrong that I wear something like that in public, he flat out told me he was an Atheist. So I flipped over a $1 bill and showed him "IN GOD WE TRUST"; asked him if he hated God and felt so strongly about it what on Earth was he doing here. The look of shock on his face as he walked away was priceless (he didn't even finish his transaction). However, the manager scolded me and said "to make the customer happy I should have apologized to him or tucked my necklace into my shirt..." I was astonished... what should I have done?

Stand up for your belief. To many people will roll over and hide when a situation like this arises in fear of not being "PC". The more people let others run over their beliefs the easier it is for groups to eliminate them completely.

I think you are right, that you should be able to wear a cross if you want to, and publicly display it: after all it is part of your faith. But the way you treated your customer was wrong as well: he has a right to not be confronted by GOD if he chooses not to believe in him. And you are suppose to have compassion for of man kind; not just the ones that think as you do So were was your compassion for this man: and you did not fallow the teachings of your own faith.

as a manager, he was right to reprimand you. however, as a human being, you were right to do what you did. maybe confronting the man wasn't the best idea considering you are expected to behave in a professional manner at the workplace, but i disagree with the manager's opinion that you should've "apologized to him ot tucked your necklace into your shirt"

no one should apologize for his or her religion, regardless. you shouldn't have to hide the fact that you're Christian, and the man who confronted you was immature and rude for even bringing it up. if it happens again, just be polite and courteous and say something like "you have your beliefs and i have mine, how may i help you today?" that way you stay true to yourself, but don't give your manager a reason to reprimand you

I think you have a right to wear that necklace, but it was really wrong to say that to the Atheist man. Beliefs should not interfere with work, so I think you should have just ignored his comment.

The customer, you and the manager were all wrong, in my opinion.The customer shouldn't have drawn attention to it. You shouldn't have answered him. The manager is not front line and should have stayed out of it all together.

You probably should have just ignored him and completed the transaction.

But I congratulate you anyway!
