I broke my nose a while ago and it's changed physically and I can't breathe at all (and it hurts to breathe through the top of my nose, the bone hurts or something). I saw the ENT a week ago or so and he said I had a deformity (cartilage). So I guess I have a deviated septum. If he does fix it, will it change the tip? Cause I think you can definitely tell...

Because I broke it I also have a bump on the top. If they break my nose and reset it, will it be smoothed down liek it was before?

And for Canadian residents, usually how long does it take to wait for this surgery? I live in Toronto and was wondering... they'll probably do it at the Hospital I'm guessing. I think insurance will fully cover it.

Hi Bela. lol. I am not sure this the best place to be seeking medical info. Why didn't you just ask your doctor?

A deviated septum is a common physical disorder of the nose, most frequently caused by impact trauma, such as by a blow to the face. It can also be a congenital disorder.

The nasal septum is the membranous ridge of cartilage in the nose that separates the nasal cavity into the two nostrils. Normally, the septum lies centrally, and thus the nasal passages are symmetrical. A deviated septum is an abnormal condition in which the top of the cartilaginous ridge leans to the left or the right, causing obstruction of the affected nasal passage. The condition can result in poor drainage of the sinuses, leading to frequent infections or the growth of nasal polyps. Patients can also complain of difficulty breathing easily, or of sleeping disorders such as snoring or sleep apnea.

It is common for nasal septums to depart from the exact centerline; the septum is only considered deviated if the shift is substantial or is adversely affecting the patient. Many people with a deviation are unaware they have it until some discomfort is produced. But by itself a deviated septum can go undetected for years and thus be without any real need for correction.

In most cases a deviated septum can be corrected with a minor surgical procedure known as a septoplasty, which enters through the nostrils and cuts away the obtruding matter. The surgery is performed quickly but the patient may take several days to recover.

Cheers :)

I had septum plasy 30 years ago. I bet septum plasty surgery is easier now. To me it seemed a lot more happened way up in my nose like under my forehead.

My nose got broken when I was trying to pretend I was a boxer. I dropped my left hand and wham !!!

It's more like the cut bone and reset them. A ENT told me I had one parents face and anothers nose and the nose was to big for the space so it bent.

I alos have tiny slits inside my nose that go directly into my maxofacial sinuses.

I needed a few days rest after that. I had 2 black eyes for a while and looked like a racoon. I breath better.

What's to fix? The deviated septum, they just scrape out bone from the inside. A nose job, isn't going to be covered.
