I took my physical exam two weeks ago. The blood tests and EKG came back normal except I am borderline anemic. I am cold most of the time. The doctor said I could take multivitamin iron pills.

It just means your body is a bit low on iron, that at this point its not a major problem, and that by taking a Iron supplement your iron levels will probablly go back to normal. Being a bit low on iron is rather normal for young women who mensturate, since you may loose some iron during periods. so you need iron rich foods ike spinich.. or iron supplements. Anemia at low levels can make you tried and lethargic. So go buy an iron supplemet. It may give you more energy, and may prevent you from becoming fully anemic.

Being borderline anemic just means you need to eat more foods with iron in them. Or eat more green veggies. My doctor told me i was borderline anemic a couple of years ago, which would explain the easy bruising and pale-ness. But he said just to make sure that i eat a lot of green veggies.

And now, i am as healthy as ever.

Borderline anemia means this: There is a decrease in red blood cells for one reason or another. There is a set range of what normal red blood cell count should be. Borderline usually means that you are on the low end of the normal range and could drop below easily. You are "teetering" on the edge so to speak. Multivitamins with iron is needed.

I had that years ago. I took Iron pills and Liquid iron in Tang drink to bring my white blood cell count up, privinding more oxygen to the blood. If you follow your Doc's instruction you should be fine within months. I felt cold at times, dizzy and would bump into the wall when i would walk down the hall. It's nothing major, at least you are not anemic Yet. Treat it now.

You really answered your own question there. It means that you're a little low on iron. An iron supplement (multi vitamin WITH minerals such as iron) should do the trick.

Best of luck to you in your treatment,
~M~

Yep. It mean you are low in iron. Iron pills can make you constipated, though. Eat 4 oz of medium rare steak twice a week and you'll be fine.

The normal hemoglobin count is between 11-14. You probably fall toward the lower end. A multi vitamin will help but also eat foods which will provide iron.
