94 was the year Explorers went to R-134. Some of the early ones were R-12 and the later ones were R-134. In other words, it could be either one.

134A It come like that from the factory. If in doubt, there's a sticker under the hood telling you what kind of freon to use and how many pounds it holds

As far as I know, there is only one type of freon. The applications to recharge the system may be different.

you can use r34. just buy a change over kit from pep boys or any auto parts store .It will come with a adaptor that screws on and a hose to charge the system it is pretty simple just follow the instructions.It will take around 3 cans for full charge

i am not sure but nowadays the main one to use is R134.if you still have R12, you need to have a AC shop refill your system with R134 , they will have to empty, flush ,and put a new orifice tube (mini filter) and vacuum and then refill your system , they will also check for leaks . it is best to spent the money the first time to get it operating right and all you have to do if the system gets low you can fill it yourself
