Don't Listen to the 3 above, Sport Bikes Dominate the Street and we all know this, But do rent some Videos such a Judgment Day.. They are mostly stunt Videos but you will pick up a few pointers on them. If you want you can take the riders class to learn the basics..But 250cc is the smallest of the sports bikes and 1400cc is the largest. They are all 6 gears. Clutch is on the left handle bar and the foot shifter is on the left foot. Front brake is on the right handle and back break in on the left foot. Go to some dealerships and they can answer specific questions and you can also sit on varieties of bikes to see what fits you.

My advice,? When you see some person at their bike, go talk to them. Be up front and honest and tell them you know very little about bikes but want to learn. Don't be afraid to talk to Harley or older folks with big touring rigs. They'll probably be more apt to take you seriously without ridiculing you as some young sportbike riders would who want to make an impression. Touring or Harley, big bikes take more skill to ride slowly and around town than a sport bike does. Keeping a bike up when moving isn't the problem, doing so when you're stopped or putting around in traffic is and the bigger the bike is, the tougher it is. Squids have no problem keeping their bike upright because they're nearly always exceeding the speed limit no matter where they are. And like it or not, most have no idea of how to momentarily come to a dead stop at a stop sign without taking their feet off the pegs and touching the ground. Hey squids, the truth hurts.

I still think the best place to find information at your own pace is the local library. Nothing beats a book. If you want a simple internet start, just pick a brand (Honda, Yamaha, etc.) and a google will give you the company website, and a lot of other stuff too.

Seems like nobody got the fact you are looking for knowledge, not a motorcycle.

Please don't listen to the guy who says not to use the front brake. I doubt he has been riding for four years. If he has he's not good, just very lucky.

here try this for starters this is the main page so go down a click on things like suspension a page will open up with descriptions I used yamaha for the base It doesnt make any differance on what bike it is 90+% are the same parts used just made to the spec of each company ie a fork is a fork is a fork (tube on the suspension) and the names may be different for the same type of part-- I swear the name the engineer comes up with is relative to what ever they where smokin the night before :) hope this helps good luck

don't buy some guys stunt bike. Know how to ride.

Stay really safe for the first two months. after that, your chances of death deminish quite a bit.

oil your chain

don't ever jump it with a car

don't get high octane gas on the paint job.

take corners slowly with a passenger

don't buy a bike that has not been titled properly.

There,

you've avoided the top mistakes.

Motocross is a sport. Many riders start out at a young age and proceed upward. It is alot of fun as long as ur not a sissy. Getting dirty is the first part having fun while u r doing it is the other.

The only thing i can tell you is not to be a dumb a$$ and wind up eating pavement. And if you want to know more about them start hanging around people that have them and enjoy them.

Those things can accelerate but that's all they can really do besides taking you from A-B. Really the use for them is for the fun of it.
