In my experience meditation is very beneficial for pretty much everything. The question is, what kind of meditation would be right for you? There are thousands of different forms of meditation. In general, the goal of meditation is to stop the random fluctuations of thought, so whatever you do to that end can be considered a meditation. Meditation is best learned from a teacher, though there are many books from many different traditions that can give you a boost in the right direction. For many of us in the west, sitting meditation can feel a bit boring at first. For me it has been very helpful to take up a yoga practice because it occupies the body at the same time as calming the mind. Yoga also teaches breath control which, in my opinion, is the best way to relax and focus the mind. Once you start meditating and becoming more self-aware, you will likely start finding yourself making different and more healthy life decisions. Your diet will likely improve. It is not uncommon for people to find themselves attracting different sorts of friends. For some people these changes cause a certain friction in their lives as they cling to the old while trying to embrace the new. Meditation is not for everyone, so go forward playfully and with self-compassion. I recommend exploring several options until you find what is right for you.
