I think, in a way, yes. But some form of a "dragon" was probably a dinosaur species. Dragon's were an image in the renaissance, middle ages, etc. and I think they made the dragon because they might have discovered dinosaur remains and did not know what they were. Thus, the fierce fire-breathing monster was created.

Still, I think they have existed.

No. But I believe that people back then found giant bones of dinosaurs and came up with the whole "dragon" theory. Maybe, they were fighting a crocodile or a kimono dragon. The breathing fire stories i think were to exaggerate their story so that they can make themselves look better so that they can get or keep a job.

In many ways there is no difference between dinosaurs and dragons. There are many types of Dragons, water-dragons, mountain dragons, flying dragons and dragons that are called Wyrms. Look at it for a moment and you can assign a dinosaur to each of the types of dragons above, with possibly the wyrms being the exception.

Dragons! Now we know that they were not the story book kind and we call them by different names Like Tyrannosaurus Rex - and Brontosaurus---You can see why people of long ago would think of monsters and dragons seeing exposed fossils and not understanding about evolution etc.
Oh the visions those 'bones' must have stirred up.!!!!!
