I don't think we can have a true leader, at this time in history, who is respected by an overwhelming majority of Americans.
There is a divide right now in our politics to the extent that if a true leader is supported by the left, he or she won't be supported by the right, and vice versa.
We citizens will need to get our social perspectives figured out in a way that covers the vast majority of people before there can be a leader that all can embrace and support...

I can't think of one. I am so tired of our so called leaders I could scream. No one stands up for what they really believe. Ronald Reagan was the only President in my lifetime to inspire me and motivate and know there could be a better America. I do lean more to the right, but these days they all seem the same.

Yes, this answer should be obvious to everyone. We keep looking for leaders in the form of someone in the White House.
The true answer as far as leaders goes is parents who raise their children with love and discipline. That would make them the greatest political candidates that this country has ever seen.
I say that it's "We the People".

you might check out Tom Tancredo. I think he has shown quite a bit of leadership. He came in 4th in the Iowa straw poll and would have probably made third without some skullduggery by Brownbeck. The media had him picked as tenth and couldn't even be bothered to reorder there list.

I believe ron paul is a start -he does what he says he will do -doesnt take money from special interests - he has a great plan for the economy and again he is honest which I think is the most important characteristic for a leader
