I believe so. It's got some pretty awful people supporting it.

I think a lot of popular music has a negative impact on society. The female pop singers give the impression that they would do anything for a man. A lot of popular rap music degrades women and white people. Which is why I don't listen to popular music. I'd rather not be a mindless conformist.

yo liquidswords, read the question son. it doesnt say a big impact, it says negative.

as for the question, as much as i hate to say it, i would agree. i dont agree because i think all hip hop is bad, but i agree because all the hip hop that gets NOTICED is for the most part, negative. im a big fan of positive, uplifting, fun hip hop. but most of the rap that gets played on the radio talks about drugs, jewelry, degrading people (mostly women). i would never call a woman a b*tch or a hoe, especially not my girlfriend. its pretty sad how the radio and mtv/bet glorifies the rap artists that talk about those things, while at the same time when you try to make a positive record, the same people shun the idea because its not profitable, or it makes the artist look like a punk. personally i dont see how talking about loving your family/friends, or getting out of hardships, makes you look like a punk. i think grown men talking about diamonds makes you look like a punk. werent diamonds a GIRLS best friend??? i feel for all the parents that have kids that glorify the gang mentality as well, because that is also a product of some rap. they are always worrying if theyre kid is going to get shot, incarcerated, or drop out of school.

and although the majority of rap that is given out to the radios or tv, i know for a fact that all hip hop isnt negative. you still have artists that push you, uplift you, and provoke you to use your mind. its not all underground, either. you have artists such as talib kweli (who just dropped an album today by the way), common, mos def, and the such that are very popular and appear on television/radio to tell people that hip hop is not ALL bad, which i believe. sorry if its a long question, i just had to give a somewhat thorough answer, and i could go on for days about this subject.

No its the people who listen to it and does something stupid that they heard in a song, who make the negative impact on society. Rap is just music.

Depends on who you are and your opinion.
Personally, it depends. Some rap has a good impact and some is just stupid...most of it nowadays is about the same stuff. I still listen to it though...lol...i listen to it mostly for the beats.
If more rappers were like Tupac, it would definitely have a positive impact on society.

I don't think that rap music itself is the problem. if you really listen to some of the lyrics of Rakim, Nas or Treach, they're really dropping knowledge on the youth and trying to help them avoid some of the problems that they had growing up.

now if the knuckleheads that are listening to the music misinterpret this as saying-
hey, if you join a gang or hurt people and act like an idiot and don't know how to wear a belt, and disrespect women-
you too can live ghetto fabulicious, then the problem is with them.

The problem starts at home with a lack of respect

Of course it definitely have a negative impact on our society, especially in our black communities as those who express the "N" word or referring women as "bitches" or "hoes" in many of the songs lyrics of their albums. That's how Don Imus lost his job, over at his talk radio show last Spring on his derogatory and racist remarks of the most black members of the Rutgers Women's Basketball Team. But rap music wasn't always that way when it first hit the airwaves back in the late 1970's you never hear such words of such artists as "The Sugarhill Gang", "Grandmaster Flash And The Furious 5" and "Salt 'N' Pepa".

In my opinion no. I think if you really listen to some rap songs they really talk positive on things. some rap songs have a negative image on society, and sometimes they talk about life being hard, but its not neccesarily all talking negative some rap songs are actually very influential.

I think anything can have a negative impact on society but I don't think it is a good excuse for people to do bad things. It is your choice to listen to it or not listen to it.

i don't think all of rap music does. for instance there's this artist named la crae and he raps for Jesus. la crae is quite amazing and brings a very positive message to society. as far as mainstream rap i think that it does have a negative impact. a lot of kids idolize rappers and therefore are listening to what they rap about as a good thing. also, whether you believe this or not, music affects your attitude. if you're in a bad mood and listen to dashboard confessional you'll probably stay in a bad mood. rap these days tends to promote violence, sex, drugs, infidelity, along with many other sins.

I won't speak for all of it, since there is some rap music that's just fine but if you want to generalize, then yes I think it has had a negative impact.
