I was a security guard at South Point casino and the lead singer from the band the night before, Great White's Jack Russell, played slots for awhile while I was on post. He and I talked for about 15 minutes about life. He must have shook my hand eight different times when I told him I was retired Navy - he's got a small boat he sails out of Santa Barbara, CA, and really respects our military. He told me I should live my dreams, so I am going to pursue a degree in broadcasting and start writing songs.
I also met country stars John Anderson, Darryl Singletary, Randy Travis, and US soccer star Alexi Lalas when I was in the military. All good things.
Bruce Springsteen and two of his roadies stumbled into a karaoke bar I was at. He was totally wasted. They sang terrible. That was a negative.

I have met several but the one that I spent the most time and conversation with was Patrick Swayze. I was in the Planet Hollywood at the Caesar's Palace Mall after checking in and needing to grab a bite. It was 3 PM so pretty dead and he had just got there to meet and greet. I went in the bar and got a beer while they cleaned up a table, after lunch mess I guess. Anyway he came up introduced himself and bought my beer. No one else was there at all, he talked for a bit and I said I need to get some lunch and he asked if he could join me since no one else was there, at least until the crowd came so he sat with me for 20 minutes while I ordered. This was a while back, he still had the big hair and he is so small and at the time I was sort of thinking he was gay so I was a little on guard, turned out to be a really nice guy.

I've met a couple, mostly by chance. When my then boyfriend, now my husband, worked at Tower Records in Westwood, I would come in on my off hours, and hang out with him and the folks up in the classical department. Zubin Mehta came in to buy a copy of one of his recordings ( I ran the cash register- officially I got his autograph, but it was on the credit card slip, and not mine to keep...) and one day Christopher Lee came in and wanted some help finding an obscure recording by Nicolai Ghiarov. Bass seeking bass.
Late on in life, I was back stage at the national opera house of Mexico in Mexico City, and met with Placido Domingo and Fiorenza Cossotto.
Still more recently, there have been all sorts of singers and musical celebrities drifting through the city where I work in Germany.
The hall mark of a very very good performer is in their sincerity. They know they are good, and it keeps them humble, because they also know how easy it is to lose that ineffable sense of talent without hard work. those people who put on the whole "star" show are really only the wannabees. ( see the girl who wrote about brittany spears for an excellent example)
I haven't collected autographs, only lovely life lessons.

I guess the most famous would be E. L. Konigsburg, the children's book author. I met her at a book signing when I was about 10. I'm sure we didn't have any real conversation, though. :)
My husband once met the guy who played Enos, the soft-spoken deputy (NOT Roscoe P. Coltrane) on The Dukes of Hazzard. He said he was really nice.

Most people probably won't know who he is but I had a conversation with George DiCenzo who played the District Attorney who goes after Charles Manson in the movie "Helter Skelter". I was working in a drugstore at the time and he came in.

Charleton Heston who came to our ship off the coast of Beirut, in the early 80's. I got to speak with him, shake his hand and he even called my Mother when he returned to the States. I also met Jay North, who played the original Dennis the Menace. He and I even had a beer together when he was in the Navy and stationed on my ship.
