Why do we have to learn in detail what has happened in the past?

To me recording things is a way to remember, some of them might not be important to others but they are to me.
Pictures and Videos of my family, the times we spend together -good and bad times-.
Other recordings, like notes from school or tips from a magazine, news paper or something is just to remember what I consider important information after a little while some do end up in the trash.
When it comes to history, I believe is important to remember what we were because (like my fiance said) "the past makes us who we are today". Another reason might be that we want our future generations to learn from our mistakes just like we do with our kids.

Most of what is recorded is useless. That is not to say that knowing what has previously happened is not important.
