There's a wire to the alternator that has to have 12 volts on it for the alternator to start up. If it's disconnected or bad the alternator will never put out anything.

Check the connections on the back of the alternator and make sure they are tight also check the wiring from alternator to battery these are two problems you might encounter especially if both have been replaced recently also check the battery terminals and connections make sure they are good if not you could have gotten a bad alternator it isn't unheard of I've dealt with it myself before

The voltage regulator is an internal part of your non working alternator. If it IS good as you claim it would be charging. That is assuming all connections are good of course.

All alternators, and the turbines earlier them, use a voltage regulator. the only distinction, as others have reported, is inner or exterior form. the version in alternators are the quantity of AMPS the alternator places out, the course it turns, and if it is V or serpentine belt.

Voltage reg is probably built in to alt. good test is check voltage with car off and than start the car and check again with it running, the voltage should be higher when its running.

take it to auto zone,or discount auto parts,or any parts store they will check your alternator for free.
