In my honda accord whenever i turn on the lights the backlight to my radio dims and my dashboard also dims. It seems to me that during the day they should be dim, and when i turn on the lights for night the backlights should come on so I can actually read my radio.

What "seems to you" is the opposite of what the design guys intend. What you see is common to most vehicles.

There's an assumption that when you need to turn on your lights, it's because it's getting dark outside. When it's dark outside, there's a further assumption that your interior dash lights (including radio) should be dimmed a bit to assure there's no distraction. During they day, they need to be bright in order to compete with the bright light inside the cabin. The dimmer lighting *should* be more than adequate for you at night since your pupils are typically cranked wide open vs. daytime. Well, that's the thinking of the engineers, and most of us find this to be correct.

That said -- it *may* be that like many cars, your LX has TWO positions on the interior lighting dimmer. In the case of my car (not a Honda), slipping the dimmer to the full bright position *plus* one click won't turn on the dome light, but *will* set the dash lights to full brightness, even at night. There may be a similar trick for your vehicle.

That how it's suppose to work. The lights have to be brighter in the daytime for you to see them.
