Many jobs require bonding. This is not possible for a felony theft conviction. I worked for the City up North and you could have a murder conviction and get hired, but not theft conviction. Many factories will hire you though.

People typically do not trust felons, especially one that was a in for theft. Your best change is to find a job where it does not deal with money, merchandise, or freight. Look in the construction field for labor positions or road repair work. You have a lot of hard work in front of you until time passes and people see your not still a thief.

Become a lawyer, after law school and full disclosure you should have little trouble getting a job. The legal profession needs people with real life experience. As a law student you would bring an important element to classroom debates above and beyond all the spoiled brats that come in every year, who have never experienced anything. As a criminal defense attorney you would be invaluable to client's facing similar charges. Go to school, the law is your future.

I know people who just lie on the application. If it is a job that will not do a background check it may be worth it to a least land a job. If at any time you are caught lying, they can fire you. It's always better to be honest but if you can't get anything it may be worth it.

It is almost impossible to get a job in this country unless you have a spotless criminal record and credit. The job market is just too overcrowded. You might be able to do volunteer work and then get hired. Churches and shelters will hire felons. Ask your probation officer.
