Predictions have been growing steadily more accurate for years.

You have to define what you mean by "forecasting" a hurricane. Predicting that it's going to form a month in advance? Predicting whether or not the eye will cross over the US? Predicting the ground track to an accuracy of 10 miles or better?

They can't do any of these things (except maybe the 2nd) now. But if you use the forecast products correctly, they give you a pretty good idea of what's going to happen.

So it is definately not going to gain strenghth when it gets back into the Gulf? Could it still head North? Are they 100% certain that it will go into Mexico?

I heard there is still a slight chance it could move North but highly unlikely.

Haven't they been forcasting hurricanes for years now? They tell us when they start, 500 miles out in the ocean, that's pretty good forcasting to me.
