It seems like being called liberal in America is a bad thing. How come? In Europe it's competely the opposite.

Just a quick note, I'm not American so just saying "anti-american" doesn't have much of an effect on me.

In the U.S.A., liberal has become the catch-phrase which _actually_ means "progressive liberal", but people do not make the distinction.
With that in mind, those of us who are liberals do not confess it. Anyway, I was a liberal in the 60's--so far left that I was called a left wing radical hippie pinko commie--and I have not changed my political viewpoint but the political _spectrum_ has shifted so far left that I am now labelled a 'neo-con'.

So, 'liberal' in the U.S. is saying the same thing as 'communist' (or 'fascist'. People confuse those two systems too) but actually means 'progressive liberal'.

Think back to the American Revolution. An at first small group of liberal colonists were disgusted by England's desire to recoup money spent protecting them from France in the French and Indian War (a war during which the liberal bastards secretly traded with the French behind the backs of the British to their great profit) in the form of taxes. Some colonists thought they should govern themselves and started spouting ridiculous, liberal ideas like: All men are created equal; that people had rights that could not be infringed upon; that governments derive their power from the will of the people and not from divine right; and that there should be no taxation without representation. I know - just think what would happen if some liberal, commie pinko tried that **** today! Anyway, more and more liberals joined the cause and after much bloodshed they were able to secure their freedom from the benevolent king of England (with the well timed and extensive help of the French who we no longer associate with because they're *******). Now after this mass killing of loyal right wing British soldiers, the Americans began forming their own government. They wrote this pretty liberal **** rag called The Constitution. It demanded such radical, liberal rights as owning guns, free speech, the right not to incriminate yourself, the right to speedy trial by jury of your peers and the right not to quarter soldiers in private homes. All liberal tripe of course, but they were on their high horse. Over the years and until recently they have actually maintained this moronic, liberal mind set, insisting that these "rights" not be infringed upon. Finally, in 2000 we elected a man who would change all these crazy liberal policies. The Decider took office. Ever since, those pinkos have been on the run trying to figure out "what happened to habeas corpus?" and "how come the clean water act has been altered?" and "where's the WMDs?".

So liberal is good in Europe? Well then they are all fags. Here we have changed the tone in Washington D.C. Pretty soon all those liberal ideas of the "founding fags" will be gone and we will be a true conservative nation - like Germany in the '30s, you know, respectable. Why are we anti liberal? Have you read my story about the behavior of these lefty American assholes?

There has been an uprising of organized, secular religion in this country, and the Republican party uses that voting base to get votes. They have made a lot of inroads in the past 10 years, unfortunately. I don't mind the fact that they are conservative. I dont' mind when their views win out and become policy, even if I don't agree, as long as it represents the majority. But, they are often closed minded and hateful. As their responses, questions and comments show.

Remember that the last two elections have been so close that no one can say that conservatives are the majority opinion. In one instance, the brother of the new President was governor of the state that decided. (Well, the Supreme Court finally did, but Florida was important). George W. Bush wasn't elected unanimously.

My general feeling is that conservatives in this country support the top 5-10% (rated financially), and liberals tend to try to make decisions based on the good of the greatest number. In the South, many people don't vote, or vote based on what their church tells them--based on morality, they're told--so they support conservatives even though those same politicians generally make decisions that harm the people that are voting for them.

In the United States, the pendulum tends to swing back and forth, from left to right, in a cycle. We're coming to the end of a conservative cycle now (thankfully!), and a new liberal era will almost surely start with the next election. This cycle is probably due in part to the set up of our government. (?)

Please don't judge us based on ignorant postings on Yahoo Answers. There are many, many people in this country who don't sign on to YA! who are liberal.

the yank Communist occasion voted for bill Clinton O.J Simpson will vote for Hillary Liberals stated as an American universal Hero a traitor because of the fact he instructed them something they did not opt to take heed to. Liberal Demos, like Hillary, Kerry. Gore etc. voted for the conflict and later denied it. Liberals have accomplished each thing to inspire and embolden the enemy ensuing in God in hassle-free terms is conscious how many deaths. Liberal Politicians have suggested loudly "The conflict Is lost"! that's the final difficulty our troops opt to take heed to. Liberals in Politics look to in hassle-free terms opt to get reelected on the fee of the rustic. They teach it time and time lower back. solidarity of our u . s . at time of conflict could desire to come earlier getting elected. That makes them Un-Patriotic.

Ok heres the thing. Liberals are lame, they come up with ideas that can never actually be put into place. Conservatives are equally as lame, coming up with ideas that will work, but that aren't very outside the box. Liberals are at their best when they come up with an idea and allow conservatives to put it into working order. Liberals by themselves cannot function. They create laws based on the thought that its a good idea, like the current plan for universal healthcare a great idea in theory, yet democrats just want to say "poof theres universal healthcare" they dont want to come up with a system that wont destroy our economy they just want to pretend that it will magically work, without any real planning. Conservatives are currently coming up with a realistic version of the liberal plan. This is why its very difficult to vote for a liberal, great ideas in theory, but they don't think about how to practice those ideas in real life.

Americans are very liberal according to every poll. The problem is that we have a right wing media here run by Rupert Murdoch which disseminates disinformation. Fortunately the tide is slowly turning with the Democrats back in power.

Because everything they have done since the 60's has been a complete disaster for this country. It is just another name for communist.

I propose we send all liberals to Europe and Canada.
