What are some negative and positive externalities in the casino industry?

Positive externalities mostly have to do with better local government finances (which, if the local government is any good, immediately translates into better financed schools and hospitals) and increasing land/property values.

Negative externalities usually have to do with crime and law enforcement; heavy traffic through gambling establishments and related hotels means that more crimes are committed. So there is the direct impact of crime on quality of life, as well as the monetary costs of crime prevention and law enforcement...

Positives, they employ a lot of people.

Negatives, many times the money that is lost in them is sent to vegas or someplace else rather than it buying back into the community. Casino areas are also notorious for an increase in crime rates

Negative:
Drunk driving, attract unwanted people to neighboring areas, theft, crime, etc.
Positive:
More money people spend at the casino, more shops and restaurants and other entertainment sites are built, which create better economic growth.

Apparently the world drug trade would not exist and be as flourishing as it is if it weren't for Las Vagas and it's ability to launder dirty money. It depends on who you talk to that determines if that's a positive or negative.
There's prostitution,alcoholism,drug addiction,addiction to gambling,adultery,broken homes ,bankruptcy,suicide,and that's just off the top of my head!
