i am planning on maybe building a raised garden box. I don't want to go through all that trouble just to feed the raccoons. What vegetables would raccoons not be interested in? Pumpkins, Lettuce, eggplant?

I am not interested in poisons, traps, or urban myths about ceyanne pepper. I am looking to avoid the situation all together.

Oh, I live in Indiana if that makes a big difference.

Thanks..

Raccoons do eat anything edible so I don't think you'll find too many veggie options. Corn might be too tall for them.
I had a problem with raccoons & the urban legend saved my veggies.
I just used table pepper, but a big container from a wholesale club, srpinkled around the garden, like a fence.
Worked great but you do have to re-apply after rains.

Do Raccoons Eat Plants

Raccoons will eat pretty much everything you grow in your garden. Some years they go straight for the lettuce, other years they decide to eat the strawberries or apples instead.

I got a dog which solved my problem ... but, you might consider just tenting off your raised beds with bird netting. A 14 x 50 foot section runs around $100 and can be purchased from Feed & Seed stores or online.

Raccoons will eat anything you will and a few things you won't. The only solution is an electric fence. They work well where I live. They're not terribly expensive, they're non-toxic, environmentaly safe and effective. The only problem you might find is with toddlers. They can get a harmless, but painful shock from the fence. That can be avoided by turning the fence on only at night when coons feed.

Have you tried spreading something around your garden to keep them away. I've had success with mice in the house with a product called "Scare Away" that is supposed to smell like bob cat urine. I'm sure something like that would work. I also use "Liquid Fence" to keep deer off my fruit trees. I think raccoons will eat just about anything but hot peppers!

They take it all, including stuff already canned if made available. Hmm, maybe not eggplant because most people don't eat eggplant........or okra........just kidding.

Short of building Ft. Knox around your garden, I'm not sure there are any veggies they won't steal.

Raccoons will eat just about anything they can get their little paws on. If you don*t grow something for them, then they will go through your trash and garbage looking for something. If they can*t get in the garbage they will look for a way to get in your house. They are ingenious little devils.
