I started driving (around our house and shop) when I was about 11 or 12. My job was to fuel up the trucks in the afternoons (we owned a construction/land clearing business). When the men came in from their job sites, I would do my thing. We had two Chevy trucks that were "3 speed on the column". That's what I learned on. Once I figured that out, the other trucks that were standard shift and automatic shifts were a piece of cake.
I got my learners permit at 15 and my regular license at 16.
