One electrode, called theanode, might be made of zinc. The zinc inside the battery loses two electrons to become Zn2+. The electrons flow out of the battery through the zinc electrode over the external circuit. The electrons may light a light or ring a bell. The electrons re-enter the battery through the opposite electrode, the cathode, which might be made of copper. The electrons either get transferred to cupper ions, Cu2+, inside the battery, if there are any, or they react with H2O to form H2(g).
