"is it a huge jump from business a level"
I don't understand what that means.
Marketing is a field of study within business. Advertising is sometimes included in business, but most often is considered a social science. Marketing deals with gathering information about the people to whom a company markets (or should market) its product or service. Advertising deals with the actual strategies of transferring information about those products or services to the potential consumers.
Little math is involved in marketing and advertising, but some level of college math is required (typically college-level algebra).

There are many ways to be creative in an advertising agency - ranging from (obviously) the creative department itself to new business development, media, production, account planning, and more. If you want to be in the creative department to produce the commercials, print/online ads itself, you'll need to build a portfolio first. If you are in LA, there's a program called "bookshop" that helps people who are non-art major students to build their portfolio and is taught by actual creative directors from various agencies in LA. However, if you're talking about creative marketing ideas, you might want to explore new business development - you do research and create marketing plans to pitch to potential new clients for the agency (diffferent agencies may use differnet terms for this particular department) There are many other ways in which you can utilize your creativity in the ad industry (sometimes on the publishers' side as well, not just within an ad agency), it just depends on which path you want to take :)

Both are application oriented subjects. Do you have some job/field experience? If not I suggest you take an internship in a related organisation for a year at least.
Books alone cannot take you far in either fields. Many of the present ads that you see and have made impact, are simple and down to earth. It takes a lot of effort and experience to be so very creative.

Ignore the yank above. Of course it will be a jump as A levels are reasonably easy and all uni courses demand a lot. But the course sounds fluffy so i would assume you'll cope.
