I don't mean any offense to blondes, but why is blonde hair so overrated in the white American culture? I went to my aunt's wedding, and her husband's brother in law was (jokingly) remarking to his son to "let the blondes come in free" and charge everyone else. I see the same thing when my aunt had a baby (son), there were so many remarks about "checking out the blondes this" and "blonde babes" that. Even on TV, the main character (of any race) when he's with a white woman 80% of the time she's blonde. I'm just curious why is blonde hair so prized in the white American community? Again, I have nothing against it, but there are brunettes, redheads, and dark-haired women who are equally as beautiful as well. And most of the blondes that are prized are fake blondes, not natural ones.

I am not sure of this either. I am not white, but I know that in my office there are a lot of white people who dye their hair blond. I don't understand the point of them doing it. Blond don't look good on everyone. Sometimes their completion really doesn't match their hair. Anyway, I think people do it because they want to be like "Barbie" also they see people on T.V that are rich and have "good lives" ( not really) and people copy them because they want to be like them.

I honestly think that society and media play up the fun and beautiful looks of blondes, as you've mentioned in your examples. I think young girls see Paris Hilton or Jessica Simpson and want to be them. They are always in the limelight, they have fun, and they get the attention. I think girls see that and want that, so they dye their hair. I think that this is a poor stereotype, but the media plays it up all too often. But I also think blondes have it hard when it comes to the jokes. In any of those cases though, I am glad I am a natural brunette.

I wouldn't say blonde hair is prized, but it is the fad of the time.
After listening to saying such as "Blondes have more fun" and "Gentlemen prefer blondes," it's a temptation for Caucasian women to become blonde.

It's just because they are in the minority (at least natural ones) so there is some mystique...I personally prefer redheads...I hate the fact that Hugh Hefner's three girlfriends are blonder than heck and all seem vapid.

Even though they have most thin and of poor quality hair? I'm a hairdresser, i know what i'm talking about and fake blondes take risk to become bold in their late age. So I don't know why they are overrated. I feel sorry for them. I'm very proud of my hair quality and color, I'd never use peroxide on my hair.

According to "Psychology Today" magazine, blond hair is a sign of youth since hair tends to turn darker as one ages.
So white people theoretically have a genetic predisposition to find blond hair attractive, because our genes have evolved to prefer mating with young people who have the greatest change of bearing healthy children ("10 Politically Incorrect Facts About Human Nature", August 2007, p. 89).
It is up to you if you want to buy that explanation or not.
===edit===
Modern blonds are not healthy, but most of them are not natural blonds anyway.
Our genes would have formed thousands of years ago when hair color could not be easily changed or faked.
But it is just a theory. Who really knows? I'm sure that the media does affect our subconscious perception somewhat of what is pretty and what is not.
