The best are the local ones that are set up around halloween. Where I am from there are a best of scray ones, usually partly sponsered by a radio station or something with profession actors inside that jump out at you as you walk by.

I agree with Lexie, the best ones are the local ones set up around Halloween. I did one completely dark one(where four people get one flashlight) last year which didn't seem so bad until towards the end, where you really can't see anything, a guy jumped out from somewhere with a chainsaw. I felt bad for the others in the group that no longer had a flashlight...I was gone in a hurry. That was a good way to get people to hurry out the door. :) We were all out of there.....quick. Next thing we knew we were back where we started, and we got in line for the other nearby attraction. I believe this haunted house was called Mansion of Terror or something like that.
Another one I did few years ago was a maze set up inside an old post office building. This one was also mostly dark, but you didn't need a flashlight and you could see well enough to get around. A friend volunteered me to lead the small group through the attraction, and since I seem to walk too fast, a critter started to chase the last few people in the group behind me. Since we were in a maze, we ended up at a wall, with something chasing us from behind somewhere, and the friends behind me ended up running into me. It was very dark at that point, so we had to figure out how to get out of there. Imagine the four panicked friends when you can't find a doorway or something right away. :) That was fun, and that same haunted house isn't set up in that building anymore, and didn't seem as good last year. This one was called House of Torment.
I have done the Six Flags Fright Fest Haunted houses at three different parks, and they are just not as good as the local ones I have done. I'd like to go to the Knott's Berry Farm or Universal for their Halloween events. Halloween is my favorite time of year.

None of the ghost trains or haunted houses I have been in scared me really but there is this one at Blackpool which is pretty weird the room kind of spins round, very strange.
Once when we were kids I would imagine 15, my mates and I were messing about in this cinema which was being built. We were generally causing trouble and after messing about for 10 minutes we heard a mans voice and saw a torch light flashing about, we all dispersed in opposite directions and I heard my friend shout-"Theres a security guard, run". I hid behind a door for I imagine a couple of minutes or so. When I thought it was safe I un-hid myself and began to creep out to the back door where I saw my fiend Shawn from behind. Great I thought to myself, as I creeped up to him I whispered in his ear-"Shawn wheres the security guard?".
Imagine my horror when my friend turned around and had morphed into a security guard. That was a scary moment, definitely the scariest house Ive been in, especially when he called the police and took my catapult off me.

A fairground place with all those rides comes round were I used to live and they had one of those and it was scary because of all the things jumping out at you or sometimes things would brush against you. Or when something is suddenly lit up like a skull face right next to you. And lots of noises is good to.

hey
it was in southport fair (pleasureland southport), the ghost train isn't scary but.... me and me mate went on it, and am sure the guy done something to the machine to speed it up because it went full speed, and was rocking, and we thought it was going to go off the tracks, normally us two adore ghost trains, but this put us off a bit lol. but was fun....great question : )
