Uh. . Brian. . no. .

The more children you have, the more tax breaks you get.

Personally, I think this is stupid. People are throwing a fit at the fear of overpopulation and how our resources are being drained away. And yet we basically ENCOURAGE people to have more children! I.E., giving tax breaks, saying gay marriage is wrong because it doesn't pop out more children in this overpopulated world. . Make up your minds, damn it!

I think China has the right approach. One child per family or else you get tax penalties.

And the girl you linked to in your thread is an idiot.

The US tax code is based on incentives for behavior that the gov't deems is good for the country. For instance, it is considered good for the economy if more people own their house, as this could be considered a form of saving. Therefore, the mortgage tax exemption is written into the tax code. It is also considered good for the economy for the population to expand, therefore, we have the tax breaks for children. Now, getting married does not produce a tax break--in fact, it incurs a penalty--something that Bush has been trying to get rid of (and by get rid of, I mean to say that it puts couples at an even rate with single persons). As for what this has to do with gay marriage, I am at a loss. Could you elaborate?

There are no tax breaks for married couples. There is actually a tax penalty. The individual deduction for a married person is less than that of a single person. Unless there are children involved there is no tax benefit and even if you aren't married and have a child you get the benefit too.

It is simply incorrect to state that there is any tax benefit to being married.

Yes Cleo you do get more tax benefits for more children but it doesn't matter whether you are married or not. The Federal government penalizes you on your income taxes if you are married.

Either homosexuals are misinformed or being deceitful. They can use a lot of reasons to allow gay marriage but a tax benefit is not one of them.

yeah, give it to people that already make six figures or more... NOT! Republican much? I agree that it is a responsibility and we need to stop some of the welfare baby factories. I really feel there are some people that deserve a little assistance. Who knows, the next Einstein could come from an inner city.

Why should people who are not married and do no have kids be penalized. In order to pay for those tax breaks, the unmarried childless people will have to pay higher taxes to subsidize the married parents.

Having offspring should not be an encouragement via tax breaks.

Either you can afford children or you can't, and you should make the appropriate choice, accordingly
